Through the cultural exchange, we provide opportunities for "new cultural awareness" and "interest for communicating."
-What is JSA?-
Japanese Student Association (JSA)とは、アリゾナ州立大学(Arizona State University)で日々活動を行う、大学公認の学生団体です。 私達、JSAは学生達を中心に、
『日本文化の紹介』
『言語交換』
『学生同士による助け合い』
に重点を置いた提案を出し合い、入念に打ち合わせを繰り返した上で、様々な活動に取り組んでおります。
Japanese Student Association is a group of students who are interested in:
『Experiencing Japanese Culture』
『Language Exchange』
『Supporting Other Students』
Focusing on these three points, we create new ideas for cultural activities and make them attractive to our members
-Our History-
2009年に新たに設立して以来、常にオフィサーとメンバーが一丸となって、多彩な物事に挑戦してきました。 2010年からは日本人、アメリカ人学生の枠のみに留まらず、世界各国からたくさんの学生達がJSAの活動に積極的に参加しております。 その甲斐もあり、現在では参加メンバーが50人を超えるという大きな団体へと成長を遂げることができました。
Since reestablished in 2009, we, JSA officers and members as one group, always created unique and meaningful events while contributing to understand Japanese cultures to people from all over the world. Now, we have over 100 members joining JSA and we are very glad to announce that more than half of JSA members are the local and international students!
-Our Officers-
より良い活動を効率的にメンバーへと提供するために、JSAでは分野別に適した役員（オフィサー）を任命しております。 オフィサー達が、率先して新たな物事に取り組む姿勢を見せることにより、メンバーの一人ひとりがJSAの良さをより理解し、独創性のある、心地よいJSAの環境を創り出します。
To provide more attractive activities, JSA officers are appointed to appropriate positions with their passion for work. Showing their motivation for creating new JSA to the other members will make members understand the meaning as being JSA members, which will create a good environment for being original and leading-edge.
-Our Members-
たとえ言葉が通じ合えなくとも、『文化』は心から心へと感動を与えます。JSAとは、『新しい文化に対して心を開く人達』と『受け取った感動を周りの人達へ提供する人達』の集まりです。 日常的な文化交流はもちろん、それ以上にメンバー同士での繋がりを大切にします。
The language is not the "Must Have Skill" in JSA. We believe that understanding Japanese culture is to try to experience it. We are consisted of people who are open for new experience and people who are willing to share their cultural experience. We care more about the good friendship between members and members.
-Our Group-
JSAでは、メンバーそれぞれの意思により、様々な集いがあります。 言語や文化といった大きな型にとらわれず、『食べ物』や『ファッション』、『観光地』など、メンバー達思い思いによる理想のJSAでの居場所が存在します。
All of our members have different interests in Japanese cultures. Some members come to JSA activities because they love Japanese "Food", "Fashion" and "Cities". Your interests make JSA more interesting and fun group.

MISSION
Ⅰ 日本文化の紹介
- 世界に『日本』を伝えるという使命 -
ASUでは日本文化を少しでも多く学ぼうとする学生達が、日々、日本人との交流を求めております。 彼らとの会話の中で、『日本人でありながらも気づくことのなかった日本の事実』について知らされることがたくさんあります。 そして、『ソーラン節（伝統文化）』や『JSA Picnic（食文化）』など、仲間と協力し合うことで『日本文化の良さ』を改めて実感することも多々あります。 JSAより、日本人学生達に『日本文化の紹介』という大きな使命を与えることで、その大切さ、偉大さを知りながら、海外へと日本文化を広めて行く役目を果たします。
主な『日本文化の紹介』を目的とした活動:
『ソーラン節』、『JSA Picnic』、『JSA BBQ Party』、『Global Cafe』、『Japanese Movie Night』など
Ⅱ 言語交換
- 教科書からは習うことができない事 -
異国の文化をより深く知るためにはその国の言葉を知る必要があります。 JSAでは『Japanese Training Club』を発足し、また、American English Culture Program (AECP)主催による『Conversation Club』にも参加しております。 このような場を設けることにより、日本語を学ぶ学生達と日本人達が親密に『言語交換』を行える場所を提供します。 一人では乗り越えられない言語の壁を助け合い、自分に足りないものを補い合うことで、個々の言語能力が向上していくことを狙いとしております。
主な『言語交換』を目的とした活動:
『Japanese Training Club』、『Conversation Club』など
Ⅲ 学生同士による助け合い
- 支え合うことで伝わる心 -
たくさんの学生達が、慣れないアメリカでの生活に、頭を悩ませ、体調を崩してしまうことがあります。 彼らにアリゾナでの生活を楽しい思い出を残して頂くため、そしてまた、少しでもJSAの活動に興味を抱いていただくため、JSAでは『空港からの送迎』や『Welcome & Farewell Party』など学生達に喜んで頂ける活動、支援を多く提供しております。 また、2011年からは、『学生同士による助け合い』をテーマに『留学体験談』や『日本の大学紹介』などを活動として取り入れてきました。 一人ひとりが自分たちに出来ることをメンバーと分かち合うことで、より多くの学生達にJSAのメンバーでいることの実感を得ていただきます。
主な『学生同士による助け合い』を目的とした活動:
『留学体験談』、『Welcome & Farewell Party』、『空港からの送迎』、『End of Semester Party』、『住居情報の交換』、『JSA Flea Market』 など
EVENTS
JSAでは、文化交流を行う活動や、人の繋がりを作る取り組みを大いに応援していきたいと考えております。 様々なイベントを企画・運営しています。

他にも、テンピやフェニックス周辺で行われるアジアや日本に関連するイベントに参加し、 習字やソーラン節を披露するなどして日本の文化を紹介する活動もしています。

Japanese Training Club
- Date: Every Wednesday
- Time: 4:00-6:00PM
- Place: Inside of MU (In front of Starbucks)
- Cost: FREE!!
- Purpose:
This JTC is a group of students who want to improve their communication skills by using Japanese & English.
We encourage students with conversational (or higher) level of Japanese & English to join our group. If you are beginning level of Japanese (like JPN101 students), you first may want to take time to prepare to join our group. This is because I really want all students who study Japanese to focus on only speaking in Japanese. But, please do not hesitate to join us. You are always welcome to observe our activity and try with us. Please remember that we will not teach you Hiragana or Katakana.
All you need to do is bringing a pen and a sheet of paper. There are also many Japanese students who want to improve their English skills (including me!). They take a note for you when you make a mistake or learn new words, and you do same for them as well.
Also, please feel free to bring your homework or any questions. We can not tell you the answers, but we can surely help you.
I will promise that you greatly improve your Japanese & English skills if you join our meeting every week!

Introducing our Japanese universities

- Purpose:
By providing information about Japanese universities, we are hoping more students will be interested in Japanese education systems. This activity also gives an opportunity to many exchange students to talk in front American students in English, which greatly helps exchange students to improve their English presentation skills.

MEMBERSHIP
JSAは2010年よりメンバー制を導入することになりました。 メンバー登録をしたい方は、JSAのイベントなどでフォームを記入していただくか、 JSAのメールアドレス(jsa.asu@gmail.com)まで名前、AECP/ASU、専攻、登録したいメールアドレスの情報をお送りください。なお登録に入会費などは一切かかりません。
